LoFi Pizza & Wine Bar 1301 E 15th St Tulsa
It’s been only seven months since a fire destroyed our beloved Hodges Bend and Lowood. The loss of those East Village anchor businesses, both owned by Tulsa-based restaurant group GB Provisions, left two very specific holes in the neighborhood and the city at large, each its own unreplicable thing—jazz nights with craft coffee, grilled branzino garden parties under the district’s signature filament string lights.
Nestled unassumingly between other quietly popular restaurants on a wide stretch of Broadway at 40th is Aman Cafe, home to Malaysian roti that are ultra flaky and just-buttery-enough to satisfy any true carb lover.
In need of a comforting and vegetable-forward meal, my friend and I sat down to grub down, after ordering a beverage each, two kinds of roti, and a pea shoot salad

Sea Shore Restaurant & Marina City Island, The Bronx New York April 29, 2024
I am a proud Nutmegger, and an annoyingly outspoken proponent for Hartford and its development. But if I was ever going to move away from my home, then without a doubt I would go to City Island to live.

Big Bite Food Festival Gateway Event Center April 20, 2024
I’m only a little bit embarrassed about the noise I made in public when I put Antoinette Bakery’s creme fraiche macaron topped with caviar and lemon zest into my mouth on Saturday night at Big Bite. And here’s why I don’t feel that bad about it: I wasn’t the only one. Other folks at other tables were making the same ecstatic noises I’d just been making, eating other things. “That’s the sound we like to hear,” said the baker behind the table, adorably pumping her fist.
Hungry Pot Korean BBQ and Hot Pot The Shoppes at Buckland Hills Manchester April 23, 2024
After experiencing the earth-shattering crunch of Korean fried chicken a few weeks ago, I continued my exploration of food from the Hanguk peninsula continued with a visit to Hungry Pot Korean BBQ and Hot Pot at the Shoppes at Buckland Hills.
Lee’s Deli Since 1993 4700 Baltimore Ave. Philadelphia April 23, 2024
The hungover in need of buttered toast and bacon might be searching for comfort and carbs with their swollen eyes rather than culinary excellence — but we found both at Lee’s Deli Since 1993 in West Philly.

Lulu’s Ice Cream Cafe Hartford April 15, 2024
When the weather finally gets nice in Connecticut, there’s one thing that comes to mind before breaking out the short shorts or planning the summer vacation, and that’s ice cream.
My shopping list when I set out for South Philly last week read: Lysol wipes, curtain rods, instant ramen, chairs.
The contents of my stomach when I returned empty-handed one hour later included: barbecued pork, wontons, anchovies, avocado, mango jelly, curry, chia seeds, collard greens, coconut meat, condensed milk, meatballs.
Crammed around a three-person table at Ortlieb’s, I was listing to seven of my pals jokingly critique the “notes” of their house beers and bar snacks when the sound of familiar lyrics turned my attention towards the back of the room:
I spread like strawberries! I climb like peas and beans. I’ve been sucking it in so long that I’m bursting at the seams.
At a sweet corner in Old Oakland surrounded by plant life and happy patrons, feet from passersby, seven-month-old T’Chaka has brought Caribbean flavors and feelings to this piece of Swan’s Market, a wide-ranging food hall that feels homey and real, with serious food presented in an approachable manner. On a chilly but sunny Saturday afternoon, my friend Esan and I met up to fuel ourselves for hours (he lasted two, I nearly five) of music festival-ing down the street, and we chose well.
Ichiro Hibachi and Sushi Bar West Hartford April 4, 2024
One of the more enjoyable aspects of going out to eat is getting to socialize between bites of food. Hibachi takes that experience to the next level by placing you at a table with complete strangers.

After a single bite, I realized I had ordered the wrong entree at IKEA. The“veggie balls” were a blank slate: a mush of chickpeas, carrots, peppers, and other veggies I usually enjoy, mashed and blended until they amounted to something almost as thoroughly bland as the cauliflower rice I got on the side.
Nestled beside new sister bar Ninth Life, Good Luck Gato’s inviting hand-painted storefront hides below a now familiar corrugated plastic roofing that extends to its covered parklet. A self-proclaimed “Izakaya Cantina,” the small, bar-centric space is graced with high-reaching ceilings and windows to match, making the most of the golden hour as we walked in. The space invoked the airy, minimalistic chukum stuccoed buildings of the Yucatan, complete with rattan lamp shades, all complemented by rich red accents and Japanese textiles.
It was one of the nicer days we’d seen in a while, so my friends and I had opted for an early outdoor reservation, hoping to take advantage of the daylight. Our table’s overhead heater was down for the count, so we were grateful for the remaining sunlight, though also pleasantly surprised by the warm colors and cozy ambiance of the basic structure.

Noche Woodfire Grill & Agave Bar 110 N Elgin Ave., Suite 140 Tulsa
Fun but focused, Noche Woodfire Grill & Agave Bar feels happening. Each side of the divided dining room is awash in red and blue jewel tones with cheeky neon signage. FLOURPOWER, reads one. ¡SALUD! reads another. The visual impact makes what the restaurant is trying to be immediately clear: vibrant, approachable but with a few signature twists. The menu, a medium-deep dive into the cuisine of Mexico, doubles down on that intent.

Bonchon West Hartford March 27, 2024
Sitting down and eating at a restaurant can be a relaxing experience. No food to cook, no dishes to wash, and someone dedicated to serving you and catering to your every whim. But sometimes, you want the ease of not cooking combined with the luxury of eating in bed.
