Gary Mezzi, a.k.a. Buzz Gordo (pictured above), beamed from behind a 12-string guitar on the stage of Cafe Nine Tuesday night.“This is a song about the demise of a dog track,” he said, to introduce the song“White City,” by Shane MacGowan.“And even if there were another song about the demise of a dog track, this would still be the best.”

Mezzi and a host of other musicians were there — along with a packed house — to pay tribute to MacGowan, songwriter and lead singer of the now-seminal Irish folk-punk band The Pogues. MacGowan died on Nov. 30 of complications from pneumonia at the age of 65.
