Lisa believes that it is necessary for black women to write and share our stories so that others do not erase or control our narratives. She writes fiction, poetry, essays, and has contributed stories to The New Haven Independent since 1988. She won the 2018 Robert L. Fish Edgar Award, holds degrees in English and Creative Writing from Mills College and has curated a wide range of readings and literary events since earning her MFA in 2010.
