Fred Noland is an artist, writer, biographer and educator. His expertise is complex visual storytelling. He works as an animator, cartoonist, illustrator and scribe.
Noland’s comics have appeared in the New Yorker, Popula and the SF Weekly. He created San Francisco Black History, a public art series, for the San Francisco Arts Commission. Noland was the chief artist on the animated short series “Priced Out” which has been shown world-wide.
Noland is a professor at the California College of the Arts (CCA) in the Comics BFA program. His graphic novel biography about turn-of-the-century champion cyclist Major Taylor is scheduled for release from Drawn & Quarterly in 2025.
Fred lives in Oakland, California, where he is an avid but unremarkable cyclist and a proud poppa.
